Shanghai's flagship food IP, the 2026 Global Food Festival (上海环球美食汇), runs through the summer under the tagline 'Taste the world in Shanghai' (在上海，品全球). It spreads across Huangpu, Jing'an and Putuo with themed weeks built around global flavours, summer cool-downs and local produce — and it is genuinely busy.
The Jing'an ice-cream festival (静安潮流冰品盛宴, 30 Jul–2 Aug) alone pulled 276,000 visitors in three days, up 162% year on year, with 30-plus brands and 1,000 free ice-creams. From 7–9 August, Putuo's Hongshou Fang hosts a Guizhou 'potato festival' (WA! 土豆节) with highland snacks, a mountain-produce market and a 'peel a potato' contest. Huangpu launched a 'food + fitness' map linking walking trails, gyms and global eateries.

The classic Shanghai bites worth the detour
The festival is the excuse; the everyday food is the point.
